The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (MAFWLR) and the University of Namibia (UNAM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in agricultural research, innovation, teaching, and capacity development.
The agreement establishes a framework for joint research, curriculum development, student placements, and technical training across agriculture and natural resources sectors. UNAM students and staff will benefit from practical exposure through internships, field attachments, and clinical veterinary training within Ministry programmes.
MAFWLR will make its facilities, including green scheme irrigation projects, research stations, seed testing units, and laboratories, available to support research, field trials, and innovation initiatives. The partnership is expected to enhance green scheme development, seed improvement, and evidence-based agricultural practices suited to Namibia’s climatic conditions.
Aligned with Vision 2030, the MoU aims to strengthen human capacity, improve productivity, and contribute to sustainable national food security through research-driven solutions and knowledge exchange.
Through this partnership, both institutions aim to generate new knowledge, strengthen human capacity, and contribute to improved productivity, sector competitiveness, and national food security. The MOU reflects a shared commitment to evidence-based decision-making, innovation, and long-term sustainability in Namibia’s agriculture and natural resources sector.
