Crop Producer Registration Cards (CPRC): Transforming Namibia’s Agronomic & Horticultural Industry.
The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) mandated to promote the agronomic industry and to facilitate the production, processing, storage, and marketing of controlled products in Namibia, continues to champion initiatives that strengthen Namibia’s agronomic and horticultural industry. As of last year (2024), the NAB proudly introduced the Crop Producer Registration Cards (CPRC), an innovation aimed at enhancing services to farmers and stakeholders in the country.
In alignment with the Agronomy Industry Act No. 20 of 1992, the NAB registers individuals or entities involved in the production of controlled crops. Over the years, the NAB has fulfilled this role by maintaining a comprehensive database of registered producers, processors, and traders of crops in Namibia. The introduction of the CPRC builds upon this foundation, offering a practical enhancement to the producer registration process.
Streamlined Compliance and Benefits
- Market Access: The CPRC ensures producers can access local markets and engage seamlessly with government bodies and other value chain actors.
- Traceability: The cards enable the tracking of crops to their source, enhancing transparency and facilitating effective monitoring within the sector.
- Collaboration and Community Building: The CPRC fosters a sense of unity among producers by encouraging collective marketing initiatives and the sharing of knowledge, experiences, and best practices.
Loide Uahengo, Manager: Agronomy Development, further highlighted the role of the CPRC in giving producers a recognized and verifiable identity. This facilitates easier engagement with buyers at national and regional levels, empowering producers to negotiate better prices, increase incomes, and ultimately improve their livelihoods.
The NAB encourages crop producers across the country to register and obtain their CPRC. Registration and card issuance are completely free of charge.
