Grootfontein Show: Wednesday to Friday, 17–19 September 2025
The 2025 Grootfontein Agriculture show kicked off with a colorful float procession through the streets of Grootfontein under the theme: Circus.
Now taking place for the 114th year, the show is expected to run from the 17th to 19th September 2025. Thinus Pretorius, Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) President officially open the agricultural show while the town`s mayor, Thalita Garises cut the ribbon.
According to organisers, strong entries are well received for the cattle, small stock, and horse divisions. Visitors can look forward to numerous exhibitors, full halls, children`s entertainment, and shared tables where neighbours enjoy good food and celebrate each other`s achievements.
Exhibitors includes leading tractors and implement suppliers, as well as agricultural companies specialising in electric fencing, irrigation systems, seed and crop farming equipment, de-bushing, general farm tools, and insurance.
A total of 177 cattle across nine breeds have been entered for the rural cattle show. The fun Cattle Costume Class is scheduled to take place on Thursday at 18:00, while the cattle section will conclude on Friday with the Interbreed Championships and a Cattle Handlers’ Competition.
As for the small stock division, more than 160 animal entries has been received ranging from Boer Goats, Savanna Goats, and Sheep breeds including Van Rooy & Persian.
A total of 50 horses across 146 class entries have also been confirmed, including 23 Saddle Horses, 8 Arabians, 5 Friesians, and 15 crossbreeds, competing in a wide range of breeding and show classes.
Nita Pretorius, Grootfontein Show President emphasised they remain committed to presenting a show that is authentic and vibrant. “Grootfontein, like many rural towns, has a community that stands together in difficult times. Differences exist, but unity and a shared desire to make a difference carry us forward. Each of us must ask: What am I doing to make Grootfontein a better place? ” she said.
The three-day programme consists of 49 qualifying classes on Wednesday and Thursday, concluding with 11 championship events on Friday.
